Valores y Misión
El planteamiento de nuestro programa es asentar las mejores bases para el Voluntariado en Second Life, ofreciendo conocimientos, asistencia, y aliento, a los Residentes que lo necesiten. Creemos que el Voluntariado, en cualquier campo, tiene el potencial de mejorar nuestra propia persona a la vez que ofrecemos la mano a quienes nos necesitan. Nuestra misión es desarrollar ese potencial a través tanto de nuestros logros personales como de la cooperación en equipo.
COMPORTAMIENTO Y ACTITUD DEL VOLUNTARIO
Marcando el Estándar
Cada Voluntario tiene la oportunidad de crear en los Residentes nuevos una primera impresión inolvidable de Second Life, a la vez que ayuda, también, a Residentes más veteranos con una ayuda de calidad. Hacemos esto porque queremos hacerlo. Lo hacemos porque disfrutamos al hacerlo. Lo hacemos con una sonrisa. Y así es como queremos que sean recordados tales momentos inolvidables.
Nuestra conducta personal y estilo se adecuarán al estándar cuando:
* Mantengamos la cortesía al afrontar las controversias.
* Sepamos ser útiles y con capacidad de empatía incluso en situaciones difíciles.
* Respetemos a quienes ayudamos, aun sabiendo que no siempre se nos tratará del mismo modo.
* Busquemos y acentuemos lo positivo en cualquier situación.
* Trabajemos como equipo, ayudándonos unos a otros a solventar los problemas.
* Participemos en y aportemos nuestras ideas al desarrollo de Second Life.
* Mantengamos el sentido del humor y la capacidad de ayuda con buenas vibraciones.

OBJETIVOS QUE SE PRETENDEN
Promover y Crecer
Second Life sigue creciendo como una plataforma global. Por tanto, tenemos la capacidad y la responsabilidad de aumentar la fuerza y el número del equipo de Voluntarios. Deberíamos dialogar activamente sobre lo que hacemos y por qué lo hacemos. Mientras ejercemos el voluntariado debemos estar abiertos tanto a aprender nuevas soluciones como a enseñar lo que sabemos. Esperamos crear una forma de actuar abierta y colaborativa con cada Residente.
Consecuencias del No Seguimiento del Tao
El grupo de Mentores ha crecido grandemente, y todos los miembros deben ser conscientes de que hay consecuencias si no se sigue el Tao de los Voluntarios. Así como las Normas de la Comunidad y los TOS ("Terms os Service") son las políticas y normas de Second Life, el Tao es también la política y las normas de los Voluntarios de Second Life.
* Por favor, fíjese: El grupo de Aprendices de Mentor (Apprentice Mentor) de Second Life se considera un período de prueba antes de ser aceptado en el grupo principal de Mentores. Los Aprendices que no sigan el Tao pueden ser removidos del grupo sin previo aviso.
o Por ejemplo: Un Apprentice Mentor que asiste a la clase de un Mentor o a una Sesión de Orientación, y se dedica a interrumpir la clase con sus acciones o por el chat, o muestra falta de respeto para el enseñante o el resto de participantes, será removido del grupo.
Los Mentores de Second Life que no sigan el Tao de los Voluntarios recibirán un aviso antes de ser removidos del grupo de Mentores. Por favor, tenga en cuenta que las decisiones del Vteam son inamovibles.
Ejemplos de casos (algunos, no todos) que no siguen el Tao de los Voluntarios:

Second Life Mentors and Greeters are volunteers for Linden Lab (https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab), communicating on its behalf the value of Second Life to new Residents (https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Resident), and while doing so providing a Resident perspective to Linden Lab.
We feel a special affinity for the newest Residents of Second Life. For the Residents who come to us in their first hour curious looking for answers and suggestions on how to make Second Life their own, we are often that important first personal connection. We provide a bridge to value in Second Life, a link to knowledge should they choose it, advice on the many experiences that Second Life provides and ways for them to find their peers in world. Set The Standard
Each Volunteer has the opportunity to create an unforgettable first impression of Second Life for new Residents while also helping more seasoned Residents with quality assistance. We do it because we want to. We do it because we enjoy it. We do it with a smile. That is how we want such unforgettable moments to be remembered.
Our personal conduct and style sets the standard:
* We will maintain politeness when faced with argument.
* We will be as considerate and helpful as we can be in difficult situations.
* We will give respect to those we help, despite knowing it may not always be returned.
* We will seek and emphasize the positive in a situation.
* We will work as a team and help each other solve problems.
* We will be reliable, committed, and trustworthy.
* We will participate and share our ideas to improve Second Life.
* We will keep a sense of humor and volunteer when we know we are in good spirits!
* We will keep this labor of love fun!

Each Volunteer is responsible for reading notices and guidelines. The Volunteer Program is second to none and because of this it grows and changes as the world of Second Life evolves. The VTeam (https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/VTeam) in its effort to keep Volunteers informed have setup the Volunteer Portal (https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Volunteer_Portal) to be our most up to the minute method of keeping Volunteers informed of any changes that will directly impact Volunteers. It further contains guidelines, how-to guides and information directly related to enhancing your mentoring skills.

As Second Life continues to grow as a global platform we have the ability and responsibility to increase our Volunteer team’s strength and numbers. We should actively speak about what we do and why we do it. While volunteering we should always be open to learning new solutions as well as teaching what we know. We hope to create an open, collaborative win-win situation, one Resident at a time.

Second Life Mentors and Second Life Greeters should be aware there are consequences when not following the Tao of Volunteers. Just as the Community Standards and TOS are the policies and rules of Second Life, the Tao is the policy and rules of Second Life Volunteers (both Mentors and Greeters).
Volunteers who do not follow the Tao of Volunteers will be removed from Second Life Mentors and/or Second Life Greeters. Please be aware the decisions of the VTeam are final.
